Work is now well under way on the Community garden at Hexham Middle School.
Work last year in 2011 involved putting up espalier frames, planting the fruit trees and soft fruit , making compost bays and starting on the raised beds.
This year work has started on more raised beds with paths of mulch between them. These have been planted with the first rhubarb, garlic, herbs and welsh onions. All the turf that has been taken up has been used to make some rather comfortable ‘green’ settees – all we need now is the turf telly!
The gardening group meets regularly every first Saturday in the month, 10am onwards. As the season progresses more days will be needed .A community event is also being planned for June or July, date and details to be announced shortly.
Please come along to help, bring the kids, sow the seeds, eat the produce and be part of this exciting new project ! Any queries please contact Ross Menzies.
